My name is Susan Weiner Adolf and I am a retailer. Since as long as I can remember I worked or pretended to work for my parents who owned Saxon Shoes. Before I could even see over the front desk I was trying to be a cashier. As our store grew and moved west in Richmond, I continued to go in every afternoon and on weekends. I received my first real paycheck at age 16 and after 43 “official” years I retired four years ago.

Retailing has always been in my blood but so was volunteering. Now I dedicate myself to working for various Jewish and non-Jewish organizations. The Weinstein JCC, Jewish Federation of Richmond and Childrens Hospital to name a few.

I’m born and raised in Richmond and my family has always belonged to Beth Ahabah. I married my high school sweetheart, Ronnie Adolf, 42 years ago. We have two grown children, Jason married to Jaclyn, and Robin married to Daniel Salzberg (also a lifelong Beth Ahabah member), plus two amazing granddaughters Ava (7 1/2) and Julia (4 1/2). They are both now at Sunday School at Beth Ahabah.

Editor’s Note:

This is part of a new series written by and about the members of Beth Ahabah. If you would like to submit an article about a friend or family member at Beth Ahabah, or your own adventures, avocations or interesting career, please contact Lori Allen in the Temple office at l.allen@bethahabah.org.
