Confirmation
The last year of formal Religious School is called Confirmation. At Beth Ahabah, Confirmation is part of the larger Beit Midrash Program on Monday nights. The curriculum combines elective and core courses. The core course is taught by Rabbi Nagel, and the elective courses are taught by members of the Temple’s professional staff and, depending upon the elective, other teachers. The format allows the students to experience both a personal relationship with Rabbi Nagel and to learn from others.
Each year, Confirmands are honored, or confirmed, at a service on or near Shavuot, usually in May. Their photographs are placed in the hallway of the Religious School building alongside the Congregation’s previous Confirmation classes dating back to the early 20th century.
Confirmation students are encouraged to participate in the youth activities planned for Beit Midrash and BATTY, our high school youth group. Each year there is a Confirmation trip designed to strengthen the students’ Jewish identities, their bonds with each other, and their bonds with the Congregation’s Clergy.
