EXCITING NEWS ABOUT BETH AHABAH PUBLICATIONS – JULY 2017
Great changes are afoot…as part of the temple-wide introspective, the communications committee has spent the past several years examining the ways in which we disseminate information to the congregation and explored the ways in which we might improve our delivery and better support the Temple’s mission to inspire Jewish lives and build our community.
As part of these efforts, we’ve updated the Temple’s online presence, developed guidelines for communications within the temple community and implemented a planning process for sharing news with the greater Jewish and general Richmond communities. After a recent review of our print publication program, we’re please to announce the following changes:
• The May/June 2017 issue of B’Yachad is also the last issue. We’re eliminating the monthly stress of writing articles and meeting deadlines, and replacing it with the following four more targeted printed pieces throughout the year.
• Glossy, inspirational piece published three times a year—September, January and May. This piece is intended to be inspirational and support the Temple mission; Inspiring Jewish Lives…Building Sacred Community. The first issue will update the congregation on the changes to our print publications, and will include an inspirational article by Rabbi Nagel on the importance of the High Holy Days and a special Voices article introducing lay leadership to the other members of the congregation. News of the changes will also be published in the Temple enews, ahead of the print edition.
• Postcards: Oversized, 4-color postcards will be developed to promote big or new events for the congregation such as the 2nd night Seder, the upcoming concert program in December and the congregational picnic. The graphics developed for these postcards will coordinate with the promotional artwork used on all Temple media—delivering a consistent message and event image across all platforms. The postcards will be scheduled six-months out and must be approved by the Communications committee.
• Monthly calendar: A printed one-page calendar suitable for posting on your fridge will be mailed monthly with information on Shabbat service times, B’nai Mitzvahs, Holiday observances, Religious School sessions and programs like the URJ camp fair and Hanukkah party. The Communications committee will maintain a six-month running calendar and review the information for the calendar monthly. These will be printed and mailed during the second week of the month prior so the calendars are good all month. The full calendar will also be available on the Temple website.
• Quarterly donation acknowledgement and congregant news: This quarterly print publication will include a list of donations received in the past quarter as well as births and marriages, as well as a list of big birthdays (ending in 0 or 5) for all members–kids and adults, anniversaries and B’nai Mitzvahs in the upcoming quarter.
