More information about Cantor Susan Berkson:
Susan Berkson has trained the voices of Washington-area youth in her private studio in Rockville since 1996. Berkson has performed in venues such as the National Cathedral in Washington, Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center, Town Hall in New York, The Shrine in Los Angeles, and performed a Yiddish art song recital for the noontime series at The Church of the Epiphany in Washington D.C. Besides teaching private voice at her home studio since 1996, as well as in Los Angeles in the 1980s, she taught at Howard Community College in Columbia, MD for eight years.

She was co-chair of the concert marking the 75th anniversary of Kristallnacht at Strathmore Hall in Maryland, which included 20 Cantors and choirs from the entire Washington metropolitan area.

Her album, Life as a Song, available on Spotify and Amazon, is a compilation of Jewish lifecycle music, growing out of her more than 25 years of work as the first ordained female Cantor in the Washington area. Cantor Berkson has performed this Yiddish recital at numerous temples in California, Florida, and Manchester, UK; the Jewish Community Center in Richmond, VA, and Howard Community College.

Berkson was ordained in 1989 at the Hebrew Union College School of Sacred Music in New York. She was the Cantor at Temple Emanuel from 1989 to 1994. She has also served as the Cantor of Temple Adas Shalom, Havre de Grace, MD; and Congregation Or Chadash, Germantown, MD. She received an honorary doctorate of music from Hebrew Union College in May 2014.
